The Jeunes Restaurateurs d'Europe (JRE) is an international association of young chefs promoting talent, passion, and culinary innovation, with several top-class Istrian restaurants featured in its prestigious guide.
Top-class restaurants from Istria have found their place on the pages of the renowned gourmet guide of the international association Jeunes Restaurateurs d'Europe (JRE).
Founded in 1974 in France, the JRE association brings together over 350 restaurateurs from Italy, Switzerland, Germany, Austria, Slovenia, Luxemburg, France, Spain, the Netherlands, Belgium, Ireland, Poland, Romania, Great Britain and even Australia. Above all, the association promotes respect for tradition while encouraging creativity and innovativeness in young chefs under the motto "Talent & Passion". In the world of gastronomy, being a JRE member is a step towards obtaining the coveted Michelin stars.
To become a JRE member, a restaurant must be listed in at least three important gourmet guides, restaurateurs/chefs should not be younger than 25 or older than 42, and foremost the restaurant must adhere to and promote the JRE slogan "Talent & Passion". The association's main vision is to enable the exchange of experience among top-class young chefs whose innovativeness brings the public the best foodstuffs of a particular region, prepared in a novel and unusual way that nevertheless preserves their main characteristics. The JRE guide presents the public with a gastronomic map of select restaurants across Europe that can provide an experience to remember.
Each entry in the guide provides information about a restaurant with pictures of its chief chef, its specialties and its interiors. What the Istrian chefs have in common with the chefs of select Austrian, Slovenian and German restaurants listed in the JRE guide is not only the talent and passion they share for cooking but also a shared culinary tradition and past.
