Hiking trail: Vela Draga

Vela Draga is a protected geomorphological nature monument featuring an educational trail that offers stunning views of limestone towers and insights into the canyon's geological history and local alpinism.

Vela draga has been protected by law since 1963 as a natural reserve, and since 1998 as a geomorphological nature monument. The Vela draga educational trail passes along the edge of this impressive canyon and by the help of its interpretation tables, presents this monument of extraordinary geomorphological value. The geological phenomenon of the origins of the Učka massif and the Vela draga canyon are explained by the tables.

Above the canyon, you can take a break at a well-preserved vantage point and watch the limestone towers rising up from the canyon itself. These trails teach about alpinism and free climbing, sports that have been pursued in Vela draga since 1931, when the legendary alpinist Emilio Comici first climbed the Large Tower in the canyon.
