Under the small town of Vrsar at the western coast of Istria, there is a lovely peninsula of Montraker, holding the old quarry of the similar name. The quarry, which was deserted a long time ago, nowadays has a special atmosphere of Mediterranean and the ancient times.
Every summer, it is resurrected by dynamics of artistic creation. It is the time of the year when the international sculptors' school is held, gathering the talented students of Fine Arts specializing in sculpting. Under the leadership of excellent tutors, the young artists release new trails of imagination in the encouraging surroundings, making stone sculptures on a set theme.
The vivid events at Montraker are also interesting to a tourist or an accidental passer-by. It is worth climbing to the top of the hill above the quarry and take a glance on the young masters turning a lump of stone into harmonic sculpture forms. Under the sun heat, while the new shapes of Istrian stone are appearing before your eyes, you have the opportunity to take a look into the eternal mystery of artistic creation.
Year after year, the sculpting school affirms Vrsar as a perfect spot for artistic inspiration, an ideal refuge for creativity, magic and creation. The harmonic white sculptures decorate public spaces, the waterfront and the parks, providing a permanent mark to lively identity of this small town.
